What Descript Is
Descript edits audio and video you have recorded by letting you edit the transcript. It is often grouped with AI podcast generators, but it does not create episodes from scratch: its AI features (Underlord, filler removal, Studio Sound) speed up editing real recordings.
Descript built its reputation on transcript-based editing: delete a sentence from the transcript and the matching audio is cut. Its AI tools now centre on Underlord, an AI co-editor that drafts rough cuts, removes filler words and suggests clips, and on Studio Sound for noise reduction. Those features are metered in AI credits on top of the media-hour allowance, so heavy AI use can push you to a higher plan. It also handles video podcasts, captions and screen recording.
